This is a demo of a song written for the Bushwick Book Club's evening of musical interpretations of the book "Schwinn: The Best Present Ever" by Don Rauf (Lyons Press, 2017). I was too cheap/lazy to buy the book, so my song is entirely based on the first few pages that were visible via Amazon's "look inside this book" feature. This explains the strange outro, where I am singing the book's ISBN number.
lyrics
Boneshaker
You can call it a velocipede
Call it anything you need
But baby it won't change the fact that you went out and got yourself a boneshaker
You used to have a sweet draisine
A dandy horse as beautiful as I have never seen
When I watch the wheels go round
It makes me feel good to have my feet on the ground
Things were going swell until they went to hell and then you found a boneshaker
You can call it a velocipede
Call it anything you need
But baby it won't change the fact that you went out and got yourself a boneshaker
Your hobby was your hobby horse
I like to see you happy so I bought you one of course
Now you got a beast so mean
Won't you show a little bit of mercy to your man
Sitting on that thing is doing a number on my can
Boneshaker
You can call it a velocipede
Call it anything you need
Tell the Michaux Company
To have a little mercy on me
